Jerry Earl McGinty, Sr. was born on May 4, 1940 in a small farmhouse in Iola, Texas and on December 21, 2020, he traded in his earthly body for a brand new heavenly body after a hard fought struggle with the COVID virus.
After finishing Huntsville High School, Jerry joined the United States Air Force in 1957. He returned to Huntsville to begin a career at TDC and graduated from SHSU in December 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He received multiple promotions within the criminal justice system, retiring in 1995 as Chief of Classification at the TDCJ Ramsey III (now Terrell) Unit in Angleton, Texas.
While working in Angleton, he was very active in the community, serving as a volunteer at the Angleton-Danbury Medical Center, SCV and Brazoria County Fair Association. He enjoyed working with his local church family at the First Methodist Church of Angleton, cooking BBQ for the Annual Church Bazaar, coordinating the church acolytes and teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
He returned to his childhood home of Huntsville in 2007 and continued his passion for service and volunteering, including the Texas Prison Museum and the HMH Auxiliary. But his favorite service ministry was providing meals to college students at the BSM and coordinating the preparation of Wednesday night meals at Calvary Baptist Church, making sure his church family and many of the neighborhood children were fed and prepared to receive God's Word...(Click the information source link below to read more.)
