Dominican home health aide was a ‘queen bee’
Danny Almonte’s arroz con leche was famous. On Sundays, she’d load up the car with containers, head to church and sell out “pretty much immediately”, said Danny Baez, her daughter.

Almonte donated every penny she earned to her church or to homeless people. She also used the money to support communities in the Dominican Republic, where she was born. Cans of beans and Chef Boyardee along with canes and aspirin were packed and sent south. “Anywhere she went,” Baez said, “she lifted people up.”

Almonte adored her five-year-old granddaughter; she’d return from routine errands with dolls, toys or pink dresses for her. She cherished family Saturday cookouts and holidays like Christmas, when some combination of her five children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren would gather.
