Alfonso E. Garcia, Sr, was born on March 16, 1933, in northern Taos to Christobal and Celina Archuleta Garcia. By the time he was three, he had two younger siblings. His mother was pregnant with their fourth child when she tragically succumbed to pneumonia. Al and his siblings (Magdalena and Meliton) had extremely close relationships throughout their lives.
