VA Vaccinations Ramp Up in Downtown Houston

The process actually mimics military indoctrination routine.

Hurry up and wait. Sit then stand.  Stand in line and move when your number is called! 

You name it, that is the experience of getting the first round of vaccinations for Covid-19 at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Center in Houston.   Currently, appointments and walk-ins are accepted at Building 108A. Despite the tedious process, no complaints were heard. Veterans and their caregivers know the blessing of getting protection from the pandemic. 

News spread that walk-ins were welcome and by Saturday, Jan. 30, the line for vaccinations wrapped around the parking lot to enter Building 108A. The rollout includes the most vulnerable veteran populations, those over age 75 and those diagnosed with two or more ailments. Certified Caregivers recognized by the VA are permitted to get vaccinated along with the veteran they assist. The two-shot process included getting the first round followed by an appointment to get the second round along with a shot card to keep for future references.  The staff was very professional, patient, and supportive. 

A veteran spouse and caregiver stated that her waiting time for her veteran,  was not long and she was encouraged to see veterans getting their vaccinations early because they are truly heroes and deserve it. 

It is good to see veterans taking COVID-19 vaccinations seriously.  At 75 and older, veterans still have life to live and contributions to make to their families and communities. What a great example to set for other veterans and the American community as a whole. Getting vaccinated is truly a patriotic act and older veterans getting vaccinated at the VA is an example worth emulating to save lives.
